The West Indies stunned mighty Australia by eight runs yesterday to enter their first women’s World Cup final, a result that knocked out defending champions England.
The West Indies, who were shot out for 164, hit back to dismiss Australia for 156 in 48.2 overs in a dramatic finish in Mumbai, with seamer Shanel Daley claiming three for 22. Off-spinner Stafanie Taylor took two for 26 as the Australian women collapsed with Alex Blackwell playing a lone hand of 45.
It was Australia’s first defeat in the tournament, but the five-time champions will get a chance to avenge the loss when they clash with the West Indies in Sunday’s final in Mumbai.
