The Election Commission of Pakistan will contact the Defence Secretary regarding the deployment of at least one army soldier at polling stations across Karachi.
This was announced after representatives from the PML-N, JI and Sunni Tehreek held a meeting at the Election Commission.Addressing a news conference after the meeting, ECP Secretary Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan said that political parties had apprised him of their reservations since they were not satisfied with the ongoing voter verification process in Karachi.
He reiterated that every ruling of the Supreme Court would be implemented.Meanwhile Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G Ibrahim said there was no room to delay elections, adding that if the law and order situation in Karachi was not adequate, all efforts would be wasted.The CEC further said that it was the responsibility of the government to maintain law and order.
