Federal Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs on Monday said that he would try to put the economy of the country on right track in his short tenure.
He said this while talking to a delegation of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) led by its President Zafar Bakhtawari. The finance minister said that he would also resolve the issue of unnecessary harassment of taxpayers that has tended to discourage tax compliance in the country.
Bakhtawari said that business community of federal capital welcomed the appointment of Saleem Mandviwalla as the Federal Minister for Finance. He said that Mandviwalla brought a rich background of experience with him, including having served as both Chairman of the Board of Investment and Minister of State for Finance, and also being a successful businessman himself.
Therefore, the business community of the country expected that Mandviwalla would be able to understand their concerns, given that he was himself a member of the business community as well as served as President of the Lasbela Chamber of Commerce and Industry before he was inducted as chairman of the Board of Investment.
Bakhtawari said that Mandviwalla had recently visited the Islamabad Chamber where he lent a patient ear to the issues raised by the country’s leading businessmen and promised to tackle them proactively.
ICCI President expressed hope that Mandviwalla in his new capacity would take steps to attract foreign investment as well as promote local investment. Bakhtawari said that he has not only indepth awareness of the financial constraints faced by Pakistan but also understands the FBR tax issues of the business community.
