National Snooker: Sultan, Sajjad fail to impress

Third seed Sultan Mohammad of Sindh continued his dismal run as former Asian No 2 and fifth seed Mohammad Sajjad suffered his first defeat on the second day of 38th National Snooker Championship at Karachi Gymkhana on Monday.


Sultan who was the runner-up in the last national event has failed to find his touch, losing two group C matches in as many days.After losing opener to qualifier from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Aakash Rafique on Sunday, Sultan was blanked by former Pakistan No 1 Imran Shehzad 4-0. The latter won 67-31, 81-31, 66-27, 61-52.


Sajjad, a former national champion, who is trailing at sixth place in the national ranking, went down to Rambel Gul of KP in seven frames in group E match. Qualifier Gul won 88-16, 72-27, 43-83, 14-63, 63-15, 34-47, 51-41.Meanwhile, world champion and top seed Mohammad Asif got his act together by getting the better of Amir Shehzad of KP 4-0 the scores being 95-12, 61-8, 84-39, 58-51. Asif has lost his opening match to former Sindh champion Mohammad Ishtiaq the other day.


Meanwhile, Amir Tariq of Punjab was unlucky to score a century break as he mustered 99 in the fourth frame against Shah Khan of KP while suffering 2-4 defeat.
