Pakistan protests unprovoked Indian firing

Pakistan on Monday lodged a strong protest with India over an unprovoked attack on one of its security posts in Haji Pir Sector on Sunday, resulting in the martyrdom of a Pakistani soldier and injuries to another.

 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it summoned a senior Indian diplomat to hand him over a protest note on the unprovoked Indian attack. According to Pakistan military, Indian troops crossed the de-facto border on Sunday in the Haji Pir Sector and stormed a military check post, killing one soldier and injuring another.Special Correspondent adds:

 

The United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) which monitors the Line of Control is aware of media reports about the killingof Pakistani soldier, a UN spokesman said Monday.“UNMOGIP is liaising with the Pakistani Army and local authorities in Rawalakot to obtain further information,” Spokesman Martin Nesirky said. Sparely, the US voiced concern over reports of a clash across the Line of Control and urged the two countries to end exchange of fire.

 

We have supported attempts between India and Pakistan to find a positive way forward and to work on Kashmir,” State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland said at the daily briefing. Nuland said, “We are concerned about any reports of violence across the Line of Control in Kashmir. We urge both sides to take steps to end exchanges of fire.
