The Supreme Court on Monday adjourned till March 8, hearing into review petitions filed against the judgment on Rental Power Projects (RPPs) as counsel for the federal government could not appear before the court on account of unavoidable reasons.
A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar M Chaudhry heard several review petitions including incumbent federal government and different power companies against the court’s judgment in RPPs case.
The court adjourned the hearing till March 8 with the consent of all the counsels for the petitioners. During the hearing Dr Pervez Hassan, counsel for Pak Power Resource Company submitted before the court that his client has not taken advance money from the government, adding that federation’s counsel could clarified it in this regard.
Abdul Hafeez Pirzada, counsel for Kamoky Rental Power Plant, also contended that the company has not taken advance money for power generation.The learned counsel submitted that unless and until the court received reply from PEPCO, no progress could be made in the instant matter. The Chief Justice, however, said that the court wants to hear the instant matter on priority basis. Later, the court adjourned the hearing till March 8.
On last hearing, the court had issued notices to Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) on the review petition, filed by Kamoky Rental Power Plant.Counsel for federal government Khwaja Tariq Rahim had told the court that the government had stopped the process of approval and execution of power projects after the court’s March 30, 2012 judgments in RPPs case.
