Pakistan Women Cricket team needs a complete overhaul after their dismal show in the Women’s World Cup in India, where they lost all their four matches. Team’s manager and coach must be first shown the door, as they have enjoyed a lot of joy rides without giving any significant results. The time is ripe that captain Sana Mir and other senior players should also be shown the door as there is enough back up talent who could not only replace these aging players but are also performing consistently in the domestic circuit.
There are groupings in the women team as some players are favouring skipper Sana and others, who were not utilised properly by the skipper in recent times, want a change so the fast declining fortunes of the team could be revived.None of the senior players had been able to even give ordinary performances in the World Cup matches. Sana failed to act as skipper as she was a total flop with both willow and leather. Sana had earlier said she was least bothered with venue change and they were provided extra care in Cuttack. When she accepted that they had no problem regarding security in India, then what was the reason behind such poor performance? The fact is that Sana completely fails in utilising her available recourses.
She had players like Nain Abidi, Bismah Mahroof, Qanta Jalil, Asmavia Iqbal and only century-maker player Nida Dar, but she couldn't use her players accordingly. The sources also confirmed to this scribe that the entire selection process was done in dubious circumstances. First of all selectors dropped last year’s vice captain Marina Iqbal, who was very experienced and ideal for the ODIs. Secondly another senior player Marriyum Shah was also not picked just because of the players’ power who didn't want genuine players in the squad. It is pertinent to mention here that the wicketkeeper Rabia Shahid had announced retirement from international cricket but skipper Sana called her, as she is the close friend of the skipper and asked her to come out of retirement.
As a result, much deserving wicketkeeper who is also very good batsman Sidra Nawaz was not picked for the touring squad just to accommodate Rabia on Sana’s wishes.Pakistan Women team manager Ayesha Ashar, who is an official of Pakistan Cricket Board Women Wing, managed to take the important role of manager in the touring squad. PCB should have sent a suitable person on such important position.PCB has to act immediately and drastic changes must be made to stop players from making groups in the team. Old, overage and bulky players should be replaced with smart, active and younger players so that the desired results could be achieved.
