he Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) on Monday dismissed new reports submitted by the Punjab government and police on Badami Bagh riots.
A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the case during which Acting IG Police and Punjab government submitted new reports.During the hearing, the acting police chief admitted he is given a report on every incident, but he said that he was not told anything about the Badami Bagh incident.
On this, Chief Justice Chaudhry remarked: “How the houses could be vacated in Joseph Colony without the IG’s consent? If SHO was aware of this hooliganism, why the IG was not updated?” the chief justice questioned. The apex court rejected Chief Secretary’s report saying that it does not fulfill requirements of the court order.Police also failed to conduct impartial and complete investigation of the issue, it said.
