DALLAS: An officially recognized forum of Democratic Party in Texas known as Muslim Democratic Caucus of Texas hosted its tenth annual Iftar dinner with Muslim community members, Democratic Party officials and elected public officials. The event was attended by a large number of elected officials including state representatives, County Judge, County Sheriff, Civil, family and criminal court judges, and party officials including Texas Democratic Party Executive Director, Ex State Chair, Member Democratic National Committee, County Chairs and State executive committee members. Texas State Representatives Lon Burnam, Chris Turner and Nicole Collier praised the efforts of Muslim Caucus of Texas for their consistent achievements in raising political consciousness among Muslims. Recognizing the impact of Muslim votes, senior house Rep. Lon Burnam acknowledged the leadership of Muslims provided by MDC founder Chairman Late Dr. Inayat Lalani. Commenting on political scenario he said that Democratic Party lost four house seats in Dallas County alone in 2010 because our people stayed home and didn't vote he cautioned the party activists to make sure this not is repeated. Texas House member from Tarrant County Chris Turner acknowledged the large turnout and congratulated MDC of Texas for bringing Muslims and North Texas leadership in one event. Tarrant County Democratic Party Chair Debra People claimed that to achieve the goal of state of Texas turning blue (Democratic), Tarrant County must turn blue. Dallas County Judge Jim Jordan educated the audience with the details of voter ID act and its impact especially on immigrant communities. The county Judge from Dallas County Clay Jenkins asked people to come see him directly pertaining any issue or question with Dallas County, he said his doors are always open. The Executive Director of Texas Democratic Party Will Hailer greeted the audience with appreciation of MDC of TX efforts from Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa. Addressing the gathering, he said that among all the events he has visited in Texas, today's gathering is one of the largest one and MDC deserve credit for this effort. He said Democratic Party is putting efforts to help specially minority communities in their struggle for a rightful place in society. He said that power of ballot empowers individuals, bring strengths to communities and help people in getting their dreams come true. The MDC of Texas President Aftab Siddiqui addressing the gathering said that this being the tenth annual event of Iftar with Democrats is a sustained effort by MDC for which credit goes to its founder Chairman Late Dr. Inayat Lalani whose vision, selflessness and leadership resulted in a great platform for Muslims within Democratic Party. He said “we are hosting this event for last ten years and it is great to see a consistently increasing participation by our community members, and Muslims are increasingly taking part in local politics.” Co-Chair of American Muslim democratic caucus Syed Fayyaz Hassan moderated the event. Addressing the gathering he said that Muslim Democratic caucus provides a bridge between Democratic Party and Muslim community. He said a number of Judges and County elected officials in Dallas County benefited from Muslim's political participation, and they will keep it this way in the county through their participation on poling days.” MDC Texas President Aftab Siddique said "Through organizing community we are trying to raise political consciousness to reach our goals of equal citizenry.” He said Muslims Americans are as much American as anyone else and our efforts are to get this fact recognized and appreciated in our society. Muslim Community Center founding President Dr. Basheer Ahmad presented tributes to Late Dr. Inayat Lalani for his leadership in political discourse. He highlighted Dr. Lalani's vision on various community events including Ballot Box Barbecue, Civil Rights Conference and Muslim Caucus at state and national conventions of Democratic Party. The event ended with a presentation of signed proclamation by the state of Texas appreciating the contribution of Muslim Democratic Caucus and acknowledging the positive contribution made by Late Dr. Lalani for American Society. State house representative from Tarrant County Chris Turner presented the proclamation document to Mrs. Salma Lalani (The widow of Dr. lalani). Addressing the gathering Mrs. Lalani and her son Quraish Lalani thanked the participants and program sponsors for recognizing Dr. Lalanis work. The family of Dr. lalani including his brother Dr. Iqbal Lalani, Dr. Ashfaque Assadi, Niece Samina Karam Ali and his nieces and nephews and his brother-in-Law and sister-in-law attended the event. Ghulam Jangda offered Fateha for Dr. Lalani. MDC Tarrant county coordinator Emad Salem thanked Rep. Chris Turner for the proclamation. MDC Director Amir Rehman thanked the participants. The event was in a completely packed banquet hall of local restaurant in Carrolton, where every seat was taken and extra tables were arranged.
