Army ready to help restore law and order, says Kayani

Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani said on Wednesday that the army is ready to provide any kind of assistance to the civil administration for maintaining law and order situation.


According to sources, the army chief during a briefing at the Corps Headquarters in Karachi about the city’s law and order situation said the military was prepared to tackle any internal and external threats for national security.


Generla Kayani expressed concerns over the deteriorating security situation in the sprawling metropolis, stating that country’s economic hub and the Quaid’s city was being targeted by the enemies in order to damage the country. The army chief maintained it was the foremost duty of the army to safeguard the solidarity of the country; the army would fulfil this responsibility.


The army chief said more than 5,000 officers and jawans of the army laid down their lives and more were prepared to do so in the future for their motherland.


General Kayani upon his arrival at the Corps Headquarters was received by Karachi Corps Commander Lieutenant-General Muhammad Ijaz Chaudhry. Later, the COAS was given a briefing by the corps commander and other officers about the security situation in the commericial capital.
