Source: Tribune | 26-02-2013

The process of deporting former Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) chairman Tauqir Sadiq from the United Arab Emirates is nearing an end, according to sources.

Sadiq, the principal accused in the multibillion rupee Ogra scandal, is expected to be extradited to Pakistan soon.Sources added that all relevant documents for the deportation have been handed over to UAE authorities including cancellation of his residence permit in the UAE.The former Ogra chairman’s Pakistani passport has already been cancelled by concerned Pakistani authorities in compliance with the Supreme Court orders.

A three-member team – comprising SSP Rana Shahid, NAB Rawalpindi Director Investigation Irfan Baig and NAB Deputy Director Waqas Ahmad Khan, who is also the investigation officer of the Ogra scam case – is still present in the UAE.
One of the team members disclosed that Sadiq would be shifted to a jail for illegal immigrants (deportees) till the deportation process is completed. He added that the process would be finalised within a day or two. Before departing for Pakistan, Sadiq will have to undergo medical tests.
