Govt, opposition have 1 day left to select interim PM name

The government and the opposition have been unable to evolve consensus over a name for the post of caretaker prime minister and have one more day left to decide the issue.


After 12:00 am tonight the matter would be referred to an eight-member bipartisan parliamentary committee, which would decide within three days as to who will be the interim prime minister.The government has already finalized four names of its side to represent in the committee to be formed by the speaker of the just dissolved National Assembly.



Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Farooq H. Naek, Khurshid Shah and Ghulam Ahmed Bilour will represent the government in the committee while four names from the opposition side were yet to be finalized.According to reports, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has been considering names of Khuwaja Asif, Zahid Hamid, Ishaq Darm Khuwaja Saad Rafique, Pervez Rasheed, Ayaz Sadiq and Raja Zafarul Haq to represent the opposition in the parliamentary committee. However the final decision would be taken by party chief Nawaz Sharif.



In case, the parliamentary committee also fails in deciding the name of caretaker prime minister the matter would be referred to the Election Commission of Pakistan, which would decide the name within two days.
