KARACHI: A minor girl and a woman were killed and at least two more people were injured when the roof of a verandah-cum-room the family was sleeping in came down crashing on them here in the wee hours of Friday.

The tragedy came to pass in a house located in Jonejo Town, a small lower-middle-class neighborhood close to Baloch Colony, the sources said.

Reportedly, Muneeba, 2, and her mother, Husn Ara, were crushed to death under the rubble.

"They died on the spot after tonnes of debris landed on them both as they slept", said police.

However, Husn Ara’s husband and one of their sons sustained not so serious injuries.

Miraculously, four more children sleeping in the other rooms of the same house escaped unscathed.

The police held the poor construction material used to build the house and its eventual dilapidation responsible for this accident.
