iPhone Case Monitors Your Heart

Keep track of your heart health while catching up on your calls with the AliveCor Heart Monitor, which is integrated into an iPhone case.

The monitor, which has been approved by the FDA, features a pair of electrodes on the back that begin taking readings when the user’s hand is laid across them. It will take electrocardiogram recordings while also displaying heart rate, and ECGs of more than ten seconds can be saved in the app for review. The monitor is powered by its own coin cell battery able to take up to 12,000 30-second ECGs before needing replacing.

In trials, the AliveCor Heart Monitor achieved clinical efficiency, and is being marketed for use by medical professionals.
