KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) is observing three-day mourning over the killings of its MPA Sindh Assembly Sajid Qureshi and his son on Friday afternoon, Geo News reported Saturday. Following MQM’s appeal to observe mourning, thin transport was observed on the roads while shops, restaurants and petrol pumps also remained closed in Karachi and several other cities. MQM had appealed the business community to keep their businesses closed during the mourning period. It had also requested the transporters to keep the vehicles off the road in protest against the murder of its legislator. Funeral prayers of the slain MPA and his son will be offered after Zuhr payers in Jinnah Ground today (Saturday). He will be laid to rest in Yaseenabad graveyard. MQM’s coordination committee has appealed to the masses to attend the funeral prayers of its slain legislature and his son. Federal Urdu University, Jinnah University and Sindh Technical Board have cancelled all the examinations that were scheduled for today while the new dates will be announced later. In fresh violent incidents, a mini bus was set on fire in Baldia no.4 while petrol pumps and business activities were closed in several cities including Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpur Khas and Tando Muhammad Khan. In different areas of Nawabshah, unknown persons blocked the roads by burning tyres while two persons were also injured when unidentified persons opened fire on a hotel. On Friday, MQM’s MPA Sajid Qureshi and his son Waqas Qureshi were gunned when they came out of a mosque after offering Friday prayers.
