Former Khateeb Lal Masjid Maulana Abdul Aziz has demanded of the government for the immediate arrest of former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf to try him in a number of cases including as a prime suspect of 2007 Lal Masjid military operation.

He alleged that Musharraf was involved in a number of heinous crimes including killing of innocent students of the Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa during a military operation in 2007 and he should be punished otherwise a serious reaction could not be ruled out in the country.While addressing a press conference along with his Advocate Tariq Asad on the premises of Lal Mosque and showing the desecrated copies of the Holy Quran during the Lal Masjid Operation, he said though they were disappointed with the present legal system of the country yet they were raising their voice as a mark of protest.

Maulana showed his surprise saying that the former military ruler was given a protocol like a viceroy of a country and the court gave him protective bails due to the reasons unknown. He also alleged that former principal secretary to then President Pervez Musharraf Tariq Aziz was the second one after Musharraf who was responsible for the Lal Masjid operation.Maulana Aziz said that no one was ready to put an iron hand on Pervez Musharraf as he was a powerful person being former head of state, a former military officer and arrived here on the behest of foreign hands after living into exile.

Describing the details of the heinous crimes of Pervez Musharraf, he said Musharraf provided military basses to US and its allies to be used for fighting a war in Afghanistan that caused the killings of thousands of Muslims there. “Similarly, he gave passage to the US forces for their supplies to Afghanistan,” he added.Maulana alleged that former ruler gave permission of drone attacks in the tribal areas, got started a military operation in Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa that caused a number of killings of innocent students and got demolished 11 mosques in Islamabad.

He further said that former President was behind the killings of May 12 in Karachi, involved in the murder of Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Bugti and kept the judges under detention. He also said that Musharraf held the Constitution in abeyance and took power unconstitutionally.Tariq Asad, the counsel for Maulana in an application filed before the Supreme Court to put the name of Musharraf on ECL, while talking to media persons said Musharraf was responsible for all crimes and if his name was not included in ECL, then the apex judiciary would be responsible for that.

He also alleged that Registrar office of Supreme Court was working like a mafia that used to take up the matters of political nature only. He said that Judicial Commission on Lal Masjid had summoned Pervez Musharraf for four times but he never bothered to appear before it.Responding to a question, Maulana Aziz dispelled the impression that he was released as a result of some kind of under hand deal. He said that his family and he faced the courts for more than five years and courts had declared them innocent. “Though they thought the present system obsolete, yet they have to follow it being the law of the land,” he added.
