Former President General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf has mentioned ‘politics’ as his occupation in the nomination papers submitted in the Election Commission of Pakistan while he has not paid any tax in the past three years.
The former general has submitted nomination papers to contest elections from four National Assembly constituencies, NA-32 (Chitral), NA-48 (Islamabad), NA-127 (Lahore) and NA-250 (Karachi). Till Tuesday evening, the ECP scrutinised his nomination papers for NA-48 only.According to the details provided by Musharraf in the nomination papers, three first information reports (FIRs) are registered against him in Rawalpindi, Quetta and Islamabad.
Of them, two FIRs, 471 and 26, were registered in 2007 and 2009 and related cases are pending in anti-terrorist courts (ATCs) of Rawalpindi and Quetta. The ATC Rawalpindi hears the case of Pervez Musharraf’s alleged involvement in Benazir Bhutto’s murder while the pending case in ATC Quetta is based on the former president’s alleged involvement in Akbar Bugti’s killing. The third FIR that was also registered in 2009 involves the charges of judges’ detention, with related case pending before a magistrate in Islamabad.
General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf’s identity card number, according to his nomination papers, is 37405-0104836-1 while his national tax number is 0018720-8. From 2009 to 2012, the retired general did not pay any tax in Pakistan. His net assets, till June 30, 2012, were recorded at Rs 645,011,465 compared to his previous year’s (2011) assets of Rs 516,009,172. His assets details show an increase of Rs 129,002,293 in a year, from 2011 to 2012.
The former President has purchased Bank Al Falah shares valuing Rs 1,961,465 in his wife’s name Sehba Musharraf. He has Rs 50,00,000 in banks while the value of the articles of his personal use including furniture values six million rupees. Rs 8,000,000 is the sum written against his personal expenditure.Pervez Musharraf has an account with number 0066-1003754634 in Bank Al Falah, Shahdin Manzil Branch in Lahore. Musharraf’s only dependent, mentioned in the nomination papers, is his wife.
He posses 170 tolas of gold and has a farmhouse in Chak Shahzad Islamabad. One Chaudhry Asad Mehmood, resident of G-7/4, is the proposer for Musharraf in the nomination papers while Syed Tariq Ali, resident of G-11/2, is his seconder. Musharraf’s address mentioned in the nomination papers is Park Road Chak Shahzad Islamabad. His nomination papers serial number is 69. The nomination papers were filled in, on March 27 and submitted on March 31.
