PTI expresses concern on attempts to curb nomination paper scrutiny period
Source: Tribune | 22-02-2013

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday expressed grave concern over a suspected deal between the ruling coalition and the self-proclaimed opposition, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), for shooting down the 30-day scrutiny period for nomination papers for the upcoming general elections.

Once again the stance of the PTI has been proved that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and PML-N are hand in glove to conceal the wrongdoings of their lawmakers,” PTI information secretary Shafqat Mahmood said in a statement. The PTI leader said that the withdrawal of the 30-day scrutiny period may badly harm the electoral reforms process to the advantage of fraudsters, cheaters, tax evaders, fake degree holders and loan defaulters.

Mahmood said that the PTI’s stance has once again been proved that both the PPP and the PML-N comprise of corrupt politicians who are unanimous on one point – to loot and plunder the national wealth and ensure that no one could hold them accountable. The PTI leader also expressed concerns over the reports that the chief election commissioner (CEC) Justice (retd) Fakharuddin G Ebrahim had withdrawn a notice sent to leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan for verification of his degrees. The ECP recently issued a list of 249 MPs, including the name of Chuaudhry Nisar, who have been asked to get their degrees verified.
