A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will resume hearing in Rs22 billion rental power projects (RPP) scam today (Wednesday).

The apex court on Jan 15 issued arrest warrants for Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and 15 others accused, sparking speculations over the timing of its ruling as the Tehrik-e-Minhajul Quran was staging sit-in within the walking distance from the country’s top court, demanding dissolution of assemblies, electoral reforms etc. However, the CJ later remarked that the court would hear the case ‘though heavens fall.”

An assistant director of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Kamran Faisal, who was investigating the RPPs scam, was found hanging from ceiling fan in his official residence at Federal Lodges on Jan 18 in mysterious circumstances.

Talking to Kamran Khan, who hosts a TV talkshow “Aaj Kamran Khan Kay Sath” at Geo News, NAB chairman Fasih Bokhari said that the Supreme Court had not ordered for arrest of any accused in the RPPs case directly. He added the NAB would arrest the accused if the apex court issues direct orders in this regard.It is to mention here that the prime minister has also withdrawn review petition filed against the Supreme Court orders in rental power case.
