The Supreme Court of Pakistan will begin hearing a petition today (Thursday) in connection with the ‘mysterious death’ of Kamran Faisal, NAB assistant director who was investigating a mega corruption scandal related to rental power projects (RPP.
An SC bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chauhdry, on Wednesday, during the hearing of RPP case, ordered separate hearing after it changed a note moved by the Registrar Office regarding the Kamran Faisal’s death, into a petition. It ruled that a division bench of the apex court headed by Justice Jawad S Khuwaja would take up the petition separately from rental power projects case.
The bench observed that the co-workers, the family and the general public had expressed concerns regarding the inquiry into the Kamran Faisal’s death as the RPP case involves extremely influential political and administrative authorities.The bench stated that the responsibility to protect loyal, honest and dedicated investigators lies with the state. The facts were brought to the attention of the court and now it is the responsibility of the court to ensure that justice is served.
