Source: The Nation | 01-03-2013

Nobody will be allowed to play with the law and order, President Asif Ali Zardari said Thursday during his brief visit to Quetta, stressing the need for taking earnest steps to protect life and property of the masses.

Expressing profound grief over the loss of over 200 precious lives in Alamdar Road and Hazara Town bombings, the president told a delegation of clerics the administration had strictly been directed to ensure security to the citizens. The president’s Quetta visit comes immediately after his return from Iran. He touched down at the Quetta Airport to be received by Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi and other government officials. He was brought to the Governor’s House amid tight security for a meeting on the security situation in Balochistan.

President Zardari was briefed about security measures being taken for the maintenance of peace and order. The president expressed serious concerns over the law and order situation in Balochistan in general and Quetta in particular, sources said, citing officials privy to the meeting. The sources said parliamentary leaders conveyed their reservations to the president on the situation in Balochistan and sacked provincial government. The parliamentary leaders also informed the president that they had evolved consensus on a new leader of the house and asked for early withdrawal of the Governor’s Rule.

Governor Magsi, Chief Secretary Babar Yaqoub Fateh Muhammad, IG Police Mushtaq Sakir, Frontier Corps chief Major-General Obaidullah Khan Khattak and others were also in the meeting.President Zardari during his brief visit also met with parliamentarians and leaders of different political parts, including Maulana Abdul Wasay of JUI-F, PPP leaders Dr Ruqia Hashmi, Jan Ali Changezi, former Senate deputy chairman Jan Muhammad Jamali, Syed Ahsan Shah of BNP-Awami, Engineer Zamark Khan Achakzai of ANP, Senator Hafiz Hammad and others.

Later, a delegation of religious leaders belonging to Shia and Sunni schools of thought, including Maulana Abdullah Khilji, Maulana Shehzad Atari, Maulana Ghulam Muhammad, Allama Juma Asadi, Allama Sheikh Ghulam Najafi, Allama Maqsood Domki, Qayyum Changezai and others called on President Zardari.Earlier, President Zardari performed the ground-breaking of Noulang Dam project at the Governor’s House.

Noulang Dam is located on Mula river 30-km of Gandawa in Jhal Magsi district. The dam would irrigate 47,000 acres of agricultural land. It would generate 4.4 megawatt electricity once the project is completed. The dam would help lift up socio-economic development and resolve the issue of poverty. The project of would be completed in three years at cost of Rs18.02 billion.
