Spring Flower Show attracts Nature lover at PMAS-AAUR

The five days annual Spring Flower Show commenced at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) campus on Wednesday with an aim to provide the residents of twin cities a fascinating opportunity to have glimpses of charming colors and fragrance of spring season.


Tariq Javeid Malik, Director General Agency for Barani Area Development (ABAD), Government of Punjab, along with Prof Dr Rai Niaz Ahmad, Vice Chancellor PMAS-AAUR formally inaugurated the event, which would continue till March 31, 2013. Different institutes, companies, universities, schools, flower nurseries were among the participants of the Flower Show.


The show included potted plants as per theme, cut flowers and artistic arrangements.Floriculture lovers from across the city visited the university to see a good variety of foreign and local flowers and plants that had been put on display. The venue of the show presented an exquisite view of color and beauty with fragrance of flowers adding to the ambience of the scene.


The large and vibrant show features dozens of different exhibits and stalls and was busting with colors and creative ideas, making it a pleasant and lively attraction as well as a fitting celebration of the spring season.In the show, spring and seasonal flowers of more than 200 types were displayed.


The variety of flowers included daffodils, oxeye daisies, dianthuses, thymes oxeye daisies, daylilies, dianthuses, pink evening primroses, irises, rose mallows, shamrocks, hyacinths, snowflakes, violets, cornflowers, columbine, marigold, rose, bougainvillea, orchid, pansy, phalaenopsis, rudbeckia fulgida, grape hyancyth, cernedia, butter cup, daisy and many others.


Besides the flower, different types of plants are also placed includig ferns, palms, dracenas, ficus, asparagus, euanymus and schelfera. They included Palms, Ferns, Dracaena, Ficus, Junipers, Leafy Indoors, Vines, Asparagus, Schefflera, Kalanchoe, Euonymus, Flowering Shrubs 7 Begonia, Geranium, Scented Leaf Geranium, Pelargonium and Gerbera. Winter seasonal flowers, pansies, petumias, antirrhinum, stock, nasturtium, cineraria, allysum, etc. and deseret plants, cacti, euphorbias, bucculents etc are also displayed in the show.


The chief guest Tariq Javeid Malik, in his address, said that that it was a healthy activity to promote horticulture among the nature lovers and such exhibitions are helpful in bringing people closer to the beauty of nature. He was of the view that the young generation could learn about the importance of plants and environment and enjoy the beauty of nature.Earlier, Prof Dr Rai Niaz Ahmad, the VC, said that that Pakistan’s land was suitable for a variety of plants and flowers but very little attention was paid to this sector. “


If we pay more emphasis to the floral and horticulture industry we can earn huge money through export,” he said. He was of the view that there is a strong relation between plants and environment. “Our environment can only stay clean and healthy if there are more plants,” he added. He appreciated the efforts of organizer for organizing such a wonderful event and hoped that such kind of activity will be carried in future as well.
