Pakistan prevailed in a high-paced, ill-tempered nine-goal thriller to clinch the Asian Champions Trophy 2012 while India ended-up as a cry-baby on Thursday in Doha.
In a see-saw battle, played on a very high pace, both the teams kept on taking and losing the lead till the 64th minute when Pakistan captain M Imran netted his second goal of the day on a penalty corner to settle the business 5-4 in favour of Pakistan and then green shirts prevailed an all-India attack for next six minutes that also included a walk out of Indian team against an umpiring decision.
India were favourite in the final match as they remained unbeaten in the entire tournament while Pakistan struggled their way into the final. Pakistan were off to a flying start as they scored their first goal in the seventh minute on a penalty corner which was converted by Waqas.
Indian replied immediately as Sunil earned the equaliser in the ninth minute. In the 21st minute, India made it 2-1 when Raghu scored on a penalty corner. Pakistan started the second half in a great style as Rizwan Senior hit the equaliser in the 42nd minute. Imran put Pakistan back into the lead in the 48th minute through a penalty corner. India again responded quickly and came into the equal terms in 55th minute through Chandi. Pakistan took the lead once again with a goal by Waqas in the 57th minute to make it 4-3.
Rupinder made it 4-4 for India in the 59th minute through a penalty corner. Pakistan played sensibly and utilised a penalty corner in the 63rd minute when Imran scored decisive goal.At the 66ht minute, there was a heated argument between India and Korean umpire. Indians walk off the field in agitation with just over 3 minutes play was left. Later, when Indians came back to the field and the match resumed, they tried hard to score but all their efforts went in vain when final whistle blew and Pakistan won the final 5-4.
