Tamim, Mominul revive Bangladesh
Source: Geo News | 24-10-2013

 Tea Bangladesh 173 for 2 (Tamim 60*, Mominul 74*) and 282 lead New Zealand 437 (Anderson 116, Watling 70*, Shakib 5-103) by 18 runs

Tamim Iqbal and Mominul Haque batted through the second session of the fourth day, ensuring New Zealand did not run away with the Test. Both batsmen brought up watchful half-centuries to draw Bangladesh level and take them 18 ahead by the tea break.

The match is still far from saved, and with the weather clear, the final session of the day could be the defining one of the Test - New Zealand could all but wrap up the game with a few quick wickets, while Bangladesh could threaten the visitors with a tricky chase should their batsmen kick on from the platform of 173 for 2.

Tamim and Mominul, who had strung together the highest partnership of Bangladesh's first innings, came together with their team two down and still roughly a hundred adrift of New Zealand. They proceeded cautiously, hardly ever taking a chance. It paid dividends, with the New Zealand bowlers blunted though they were accurate, targeting the stumps. The two who were dismissed early on by Neil Wagner, Anamul Haque and Marshall Ayub, would have done well to also adopt the same slow-but-steady approach, as both were out edging to slip attempting to drive at deliveries that were outside off stump.

New Zealand could not extend their innings for too much longer on the fourth morning in Mirpur, but they did enough to push the lead to a comfortable 155. At that point, it looked like they were in control of the match. Tamim and Mominul have wrested some of that control from them, but it won't take much for the visitors to decisively take charge once more. Bangladesh will have that in mind when they come out after tea.
