MQM admits Mustafa Kamal had tendered resignation
Source: Geo News | 02-12-2013

The Rabitta Committee of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Sunday admitted that its Senator Mustafa Kamal had tendered resignation from the Senate seat but the party leadership did not approve his decision.

In a statement, the MQM Rabitta Committee further clarified that Mustafa Kamal has been living abroad for the past several months citing personal engagements.

It said Kamal had taken leave from party activities for attending his business related engagements and had also informed the party leadership about his decision to go abroad.

However, according to Geo News correspondent Murtaza Ali Shah, the former Karachi mayor Mustafa Kamal and member MQM Rabitta Committee Anis Kaimkhani had developed some differences with the party’s leadership in Karachi. Consequently, Kamal headed for Dubai and Kaimkhani for Dubai and Malaysia.

The correspondent further said that the differences emerged following the May 11 general elections between them and the party’s new leadership, which then also included Dr Khalid Maqbool and Amir Khan.

According to Faisal Aziz Khan, Bureau Chief of Geo News Karachi, Mustafa Kamal had first shifted to Tanzania along with his wife who is from there. Later, he arrived in Dubai where he had got a job with a Pakistani construction company.

It is pertinent to mention here that MQM had earlier denied reports of Mustafa Kamal’s resignation from the Senate. The party said that Kamal is still a member of the Senate and that there were no differences between the party leadership and the former mayor.
