ISLAMABAD: A three-judge Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Thursday heard a case pertaining to New Islamabad Airport. The chief justice said that cost of the project had increased from Rs26 billion to Rs73 billion and the government should hand over the case to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The CJ said whether the government thought there should be no transparency in projects of national interest. The bench directed Additional Attorney General Shah Khawar to inform the court about government viewpoint over the issue. Justice Jawad S. Khawaja said that appointment of Director General Civil Aviation Authority was not as per law. He said that the government didn’t seem interested in the project. Khawar prayed that companies working on the project of national interest should not be stopped. The hearing was put off till September 2.
