Balochistan MPAs oppose governor’s rule
Source: Dawn News | 22-01-2013

Members of the Balochistan Assembly belonging to JUI-F and BNP-Awami again criticised the federal government on Monday for imposing governor’s rule in the province and termed it an insult to people’s mandate.

During a debate in the Balochistan Assembly, they demanded that all legislations should be in accordance with recommendations of the Council of Islamic Ideology.Speaker Syed Matiullah Agha who had summoned the assembly session on a requisition submitted by 19 MPAs presided over the session.

Opening the debate, former senior minister Maulana Abdul Wasey said that President Asif Ali Zardari who had imposed the governor’s rule should also implement recommendations of the CII and introduce Islamic Sharia through an executive order by using relevant articles of the Constitution as he had done for removing the elected government of Balochistan.

The JUI-F leader said it was a matter of concern that no government had taken steps to introduce Islamic Sharia in the country. He praised CII Chairman Senator Maulana Mohammad Khan Shirani for preparing the recommendations and said that all legislations must conform to them.

Referring to the imposition of governor’s rule and removal of the Raisani-led coalition government, Maulana Abdul Wasey said it was a well-planned conspiracy for which ground had been paved earlier. He said the centre had been pressurising the MPAs by registering NAB cases against ministers.

“We will not come under pressure because we believe in the court of masses which has sent us to the assembly with the power of vote,” he said. The JUI-F leader said members of the Balochistan Assembly represented 10 million people and they wanted to strengthen democracy.Former minister for agriculture Mir Asad Baloch of the BNP-Awami regretted that the laws in the country had not been made in accordance with the Sharia over the past 65 years.

He said the former princely state of Kalat had enacted laws conforming to the teachings of Islam and people still possessed record of the laws.Mr Baloch said the governor’s rule had been imposed to bring the Pakhtunkhawa Milli Awami Party and National Party into power after the next elections.

It is a conspiracy against an elected government which had protected rights of the people of Balochistan at all forums,” he said
He said since the provincial assembly had not been dissolved there was no reason to stop MPAs’ funds. He urged the chief secretary to release the funds immediately.

Former minister Maulana Syed Abdul Bari Agha of JUI-F stressed the need for enacting legislations on the basis of CII’s recommendations.Independent MPA Shahnawaz Marri said all provincial assemblies should enact laws based on CII’s recommendations.Nasreen Khetran praised the CII’s recommendations.Aainullah Shams of JUI-F also stressed the need for implementing the recommendations in letter and spirit. The speaker adjourned the session till Jan 24.
