KESC requests Nepra to hike tariff by 46 paisas/unit
Source: the nation | 14-12-2012

The electricity consumers of Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) should get ready to bear an electric blow as the company has requested the regulatory authority to approve a hike of Re 0.46 per unit in the price of electricity.

The company has submitted a plea requesting the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) to jack up the price of electricity for the month of October under the head fuel price adjustment, sources transpired on Thursday. The KESC in its request has sought the regulatory authority approval to pass on the impact of additional cost to the over burdened consumers incurred over the generation of electricity during the above said period.

Sources in Nepra told that a decision by the regulator over the company’s plea is likely during next week. The regulator had already approved a decrease in the price of electricity for the consumers of KESC by Rs0.7/ kilowatt-hour (Kwh) for July, Rs0.37/kwh for August, and Rs0.38/kwh for the month of September under the head fuel price adjustment.

They were of the view that owing to the orders of Islamabad High Court (IHC), Nepra cannot issue a notification of decrease in the price of electricity as a result to which the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) Ltd can’t pass on the impact of reduction in electricity prices to the consumers already bearing heavy brunt of sky rocketing prices of electricity for a long time.
