Nawaz announces names of polls contestants tomorrow
Source: The Nation | 09-04-2013

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz is likely to announce names of its final contestants for the May 11 elections on Wednesday (tomorrow). Sources in the PML-N say the party has completed most of the work about finalising names of its election candidates that will be made public by the chief, Nawaz Sharif, on April 10.

The PML-N will also formally embark on its election campaign with a public meeting in Layyah on April 11 which will be addressed by Nawaz Sharif and other local and central party leaders. As to the election campaign, the sources say, it will have four tiers: the fist is provincial, the second divisional, the third district, and the fourth is at the local level by the candidates themselves. All the four tiers have been integrated in a way that the party projection, its programme and performance of the former PML-N government, beginning from the upper level trickles down to the lowest, to the benefit of the candidates and help him woo the voters.

The sources say the party’s media campaign, both through the print and electronic, as well as the election jingles etc have also been finalised to supplement the overall projection of the party before the D-day. The top leadership of the party will address the public meetings at all central points of the country which will be selected in a manner that they cover maximum constituencies to rope in the voters. The sources further say that schedule of the public meetings which will be addressed by Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif and other top leaders, is being worked out.

Towards the end of the campaign, massive public meetings in Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad and Rawalpinidi are expected to be held. The sources further disclose that the former prime minister who has filed his nomination papers to contest for two seats of the City, may prefer to field himself in NA-120 to let his nephew Hamza Shahbaz Sharif contest in NA-119. Nawaz Sharif will also contest election in NA-68, Sargodha and the final decision as to which constituencies he would contest from will be announced on Wednesday. However, the main office of Nawaz Sharif is being established near Nasir Bagh which falls in the constituency of NA-120.

The parliamentary board of the party on Monday continued to examine the names for ticket holders. The meeting was chaired by Nawaz Sharif. In another development, the PML-N talks with the right wings parties for seat adjustments have failed to make any breakthrough although negotiations are still going on. The sources say the PML-N team is talking about adjustments with the Jamaat-e-Islami and the JUI-F, but the matter is stuck up at the number of seats being sought by both the parties.

In the separately held talks with the JI and the JUI-F, say the sources, the PML-N is not ready to give the demanded number of seats to these parties while it is agreed to give them what they demand in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In Sindh, the party has reached an understanding and seat adjustments as one of the partners in the 10-party alliance being headed by the PML-F. As to the PML-Likeminded, they say, the party is facing difficulty to accommodate candidates of the former on 12 per cent seats in the Punjab, and hence it may not adjust more than a few of the Likeminded.
